Marie Guard is originally from Florida. She graduated from Florida State University. Upon moving to California, Marie attended law school at Golden Gate University School of Law, where she received the AmJur award in California Family Law taught by Justice Donald King of the California Court of Appeals. She was Co-Chair of the Graduation Committee and received the Civil Litigation award for her outstanding mock trial presentation. Upon graduation, she started her legal career as the Criminal Research Attorney for Contra Costa County Superior Court. From there, she worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County for several years and then was an associate in a civil litigation firm in central Contra Costa County.
Marie took some time away from the legal profession to raise a family. During this time, she volunteered for several organizations including Meals on Wheels, The American Heart Association, Canine Companions for Independence, local school PTAs, youth sports teams, coached and refereed youth soccer, tutored reading programs at the elementary –school level.
In recent years, Marie returned to the legal field after graduating with highest honors from the San Francisco State University Paralegal Studies program. She spent some time with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission District Office in San Francisco before joining Venardi Zurada LLP as a paralegal.
